Preventing Sweat Rash

There are a number of things you can do to stop your sweat rash from spreading, or even to avoid from getting it yourself in the first place.

Top tips

  • Keep your skin cool and exposed to air
  • Keep your skin dry
  • Pat rather than rub your skin dry – rubbing could damage your skin and spread your infection
  • Always wash your hands after applying treatment so you avoid spreading your infection
  • Avoid getting sweaty in the areas where you experienced sweat rash – if this is not possible be aware that sweat rash could return and treat it early
  • Clean your skin gently, moisturise or apply a skin barrier protectant cream
  • Avoid wearing clothes that rub against your skin that may irritate sensitive areas
  • Avoid clothes made with materials such as lycra and nylon as they reduce the amount of air which reaches the skin, instead stick to breathable fabrics like cotton
