Preventing Jock Itch

Jock itch can generally be prevented if you remember to follow good hygiene habits. Take extra care if you have existing fungal infections, such as athlete’s foot, as fungal infections can spread easily to other parts of your body. It’s very important for you to avoid long exposure to moisture and if you are currently suffering from jock itch, to keep the affected area dry.

Top tips:

  • Keep your groin area clean and dry, especially after washing, exercising or on a hot day
  • Wear cotton underwear
  • Avoid tight synthetic clothing or active-wear
  • Wearing loose fitting clothing
  • Change your underwear daily
  • Change your towels frequently

Spreading the infection

Jock itch is very contagious so do be aware of others while you are infected. It’s best not to share clothes, towels or bed sheets – that way you avoid spreading your infection to those close to you. Also, it’s best to use different towels for your groin and the rest of your body and remember to always wash your hands after applying any treatment. Doing so will help prevent your infection spreading to other parts of your body
